Domain names, web hosting, content management; doesn't it just make your head spin? I know it did for me when I first started trying to put up a website. A website no longer online because I was burnt by the cost of web hosting. If you want a website that people will actually be able to find in search engines like google, you really need to have a decent domain name, or web address. That comes at an expense, of course. After that you need to have the website hosted somewhere. Now, this can be done on the cheap, or rather for free, with a lot of places offering free web hosting. The thing is, if its free, they usually want you to either have ads on your site, or to use a sub-domain; a web address using their site's name. For example: yoursite.freehostingplace.com.
Now, this may seem all well and good, and it may not bother you, but believe me it is important. It makes things like getting a good result page placement in google rather hard, so if you actually want people to come to your site, you need to either pay for hosting and the domain, or pay for the domain name and search really hard to find a free web hosting company that doesn't use ads and lets you have your own domain name.
I, personally, no longer use free web hosting. There are enough
cheap web hosting companies on the net that charge a very small amount per month to give you all the services and customer support you could need. Free web hosting companies don't tend to offer much in the way of support, and have out dated services like old versions of php. If you pay for hosting, you can get all the latest software versions, and all the support you need.
So, my advice is to leave behind the idea of free web hosting and look around for companies offering cheap webhosting instead. I mean, how many times have you gone into google and looked for information on some obscure topic that most people will never have heard of, only to find some website covered in ads so badly that you can't actually concentrate enough on the content to find out what information the website is offering? That is what you get for free hosting; ads cluttering your webpages. No one wants to see that, let along have it on their own site. So just search hard and look at people's testimonials about cheap web and
domain hosting options so you can make a more informed decision. This way you can get exactly what you need from a hosting provider whilst still having a website that people can and will want to visit.
